What is our jewellery made out of?
Oh Yohanna jewellery is made out of beautiful porcelain, fired in a kiln up to three times, to approximately 1230°C (2246°F). Select pieces have been accentuated with gold lustre, and/or 24k Gold or White Gold plated cubic zirconia charms.

What kind of earring posts do you use?
All of our earrings posts, ear wires, hoops and stud backs are hypoallergenic, surgical stainless steel, so the likelihood of irritation to the ear is extremely minimal. Surgical stainless steel is a premium, durable material recommended for those with sensitive skin, however, it can still cause irritations for some people.

Are the earrings and earring colours exactly as they appear on the website?
We have endeavoured to showcase the colours as accurately as possible through our photography and images on our website and socials, however, because of different computer settings the colours can vary on different screens. Because all pieces are handcrafted individually and undergo multiple firings, this may also lead to slight shape and colour variations.

We have a stringent quality control process to ensure that each piece of jewellery passes their quality checks. We are confident that you will not be disappointed, and we are very proud of each and every OHYO piece that is handcrafted with love.

What is Gold Lustre?
Lustre is an overglaze, meaning that it's applied over the vitrified, glaze-fired piece and requires a third firing. Lustre is made of particles of real gold suspended in a liquid medium, usually a pine oil resin. During firing, the base liquid burns away to leave a layer of real gold. Amazing!

How is it made?
Each piece is handmade and goes through an extensive process from initial concept and design, to condition the rolling out the clay slab, then individually cutting and hand-sculpting each piece from the finest porcelain clay. All created in small batches from my home studio in Bellbowrie, Queensland, then carefully placed into a kiln ready for their first 'bisque' firing.

Once they come out of the kiln, each piece is closely inspected, painstakingly hand-sanded, and painted by hand with glaze. This is where each piece will undertake a second firing, reaching over 1230°C (2246°F). And where pieces have been accentuated and painted with lustre, they will go into the kiln for their third and final firing. Once this stage is completed, all earrings and jewellery are assembled with the utmost care. Because all pieces are handcrafted individually and undergo multiple firings, this may lead to slight shape and colour variations. And due to the nature of certain effects and techniques used, each pair is completely unique.
